VIN # 4016 Odometer reads 72,902 miles.
This 1967 Ghia 450SS is one of just 52 examples hand built between 1966-1967 that
combined sleek Giugiaro Italian design with a robust Chrysler 235 horse power, 273
cubic inch V8 engine. All were delivered new in the United States through a single
dealer in Beverly Hills, and around forty 450SS cars can be accounted for today. This
car, chassis #4016, is finished in what’s believed to be its factory yellow and has 72k
original miles. It was restored approximately 10 years ago with new paint and interior,
and retains a Commando 273 V8 and 3-speed Torque Flite automatic. The car
received a complete engine rebuild at 67k miles.
Originally designed as a fastback and ultimately produced with a custom steel
convertible body by Ghia, most of the 52 production cars were special ordered by
wealthy individuals and had a lofty sticker price around $12,000 when new. Borrani
wire wheels are in excellent condition.
Only one other yellow 450SS was produced that was the Barcelona show car. The
believes this is the car’s original color and cannot find any evidence suggesting
otherwise. 4016 makes a strong visual impression, and the seller points out that
these were hand made cars with slight variations to each one. The soft top is in very
good condition.
The interior was completely redone with reupholstered seats, door panels, and new
carpet. Gauges were rebuilt and retain unique Ghia copper trim rings. The top goes
up and down smoothly via manual operation, and the cool push-button door handles
work as expected.
The engine was completely rebuilt at 67,352 miles, and new shocks, brakes, ball
joints, and steering items were replaced at 70,500 miles. The transmission and front
suspension were both rebuilt at 71,237 miles. Suspension and brakes are all Chrysler
parts.
